Thursday 13th June 2019 saw the Bristol Masonic Benevolent Institute deliver the cheque that completed its £80,000 pledge to St Peter’s Hospice for the funding of a new inpatient room. The room was just awaiting the final furnishings and fittings needed to complete this state-of-the-art home-from-home, ready to receive its first guest.

A simple wall plaque, just outside the room, acknowledges the BMBI’s donation, and an internal wall within the main building will soon list the sponsors and supporters who have helped fund the buildings’ metamorphosis into a 21st Century Hospice for Bristol. The new facilities are superbly finished and furnished to a 5-star standard, and everyone greets you with a warm and friendly smile.
It was a privilege to accompany W Bro Paul Binding to formally hand the cheque to Chloe Milloy, Trusts and Major Gifts Fundraiser at St Peter’s Hospice, and then be treated to a private tour of the beautiful building, whilst respecting the privacy of its day patients and in-patients.
Since 2014 the BMBI has donated the just over £131,000 to St Peters: £38,000 for two day-patient vehicles, £13,000 for two highly specialised beds and £80,000 for the inpatient room funded by Bristol’s Masons, through the BMBI.
During the same period individual, Lodges and Chapters have also donated funds to the building appeal, and we must never forget the invaluable work done by the army of volunteer workers whose services enable the hospice to concentrate its funds on its Guests, and funding the daily running costs of £20,000.
