Park Street Update
September 20th 2020
Dear Brethren and Companions
As you will be aware, it had been the intention of the Province to re-open Freemasons’ Hall for business from the start of October. As you would expect, that decision was always conditional on the prevailing circumstances and in the light of the increase in infection rates, the current Government legislation relating to the Rule of Six and our continuing concern regarding the health of our members, we have decided that Freemasons’ Hall will remain closed for the remainder of this year for Masonic meetings.
On a personal level, I am deeply saddened by this step as I believe that some meetings could have been conducted safely and this would have kept the flame of Masonry in Bristol burning. However, I also recognise that some Lodges did not feel they could function properly, and some individuals had grave reservations about the reduced contact ceremony for initiates, as well as the lack of an After Meeting.
The Provincial Grand Secretary and the Provincial Grand Scribe E will be in touch with each Lodge and Chapter to discuss requirements and give further guidance. In the meantime, can I please ask Lodges and Chapters to continue to support all Members through Zoom meetings, phone calls and maybe an occasional post-card or letter.
The situation will continue to be monitored and should there be any dramatic change, we will be in touch immediately.
Yours sincerely and fraternally
Jonathan MW Davis
Provincial Grand Master
